To Study the Bit Rate of Fiber optic digital link system.

Bit Rate

Bit rate, as the name implies, describes the rate at which bits are transferred from one location to another. In other words, it measures how much data is transmitted in a given amount of time. Bit rate is commonly measured in bits per second (bps), kilobits per second (Kbps), or megabits per second (Mbps).

Optical digital link system

Fiber optic digital link was used to transmit and receive the data from one place another place .In this digital link will be supporting 5Mbd speed data communication. It will be act as an optical data modem. So we can use this digital link system in various sectors. And this digital link was used RS 232 serial port for communication.

Procedure

  • Connect +15V adapter to both transmitter and receiver module
  • Switch (sw1) ON the transmitter Module and CRO
  • Connect P2 and P9 using patch chord.
  • Connect the 1 m Plastic fiber cable between transmitter module LED to receiver module Photo Diode.
  • Switch (sw1) ON the receiver Module.
  • Connect P3 and P4 in receiver module using patch chord.
  • Get transmitted TTL output on P5 test point.
  • In this system transmitting LED HFBR 1251 and receiving Photo Diode HFBR 2521 Bit Rate is 5 Mbps.
  • Therefore the System bit rate, - Bit Rate (20 m) = 5 Mbps (Max).

 

Result

Thus the Bit Rate of Fiber optic digital link system wascalculated.
