In the project, we propose a smart card-based toll booth system that is monitored over IoT. We have an Internet server to maintain all data of user accounts and also their balance. each vehicle owner should be possessed an RFID based card that stores their account number. When the vehicle arrives at the toll booth the vehicle will monitor by cards scanned. This system is now connected to the online server to check if the card is valid and if valid what is the balance. If user balance is sufficient balance means the system debited by online and web system sends a signal back to the card scanner system that the user has been billed. After receiving the billing signal the system operates a motor to open the toll gate for that car.

Abstract

Normally the toll booth is a very complicated task. From this project, we propose a smart card-based toll booth system that is monitored over IoT. We have an Internet server to maintain all data of user accounts and also their balance. each vehicle owner should be possessed an RFID based card that stores their account number. When the vehicle arrives at the toll booth the vehicle will monitor by cards scanned. This system is now connected to the online server to check if the card is valid and if valid what is the balance. If user balance is sufficient balance means the system debited by online and web system sends a signal back to the card scanner system that the user has been billed. After receiving the billing signal the system operates a motor to open the toll gate for that car. This system is controlled by a NODEMCU ESP8266 microcontroller to achieve this purpose. The microcontroller uses the WIFI connection to connect to the internet through which the system interacts with the webserver to perform the online verification process. Also, the system allows storing data of all the vehicles passed at particular time intervals for later reference and surveillance. This system thus automates the entire toll booth collection and monitoring process with ease using RFID plus IOT based system.

Block Diagram Explanation

 This IoT based toll manager system works on the principle of an RFID reader. When anyone vehicle passes through the toll collection booth then the vehicle owner just scanned his RFID card on RFID reader then this RFID reader will allow the vehicle to pass through toll collection booth. Actually, the behind of this whole process, every vehicle owner must have his own toll booth account and this account would be charged from the toll collection booth department. Similarly, when the vehicle would be passed through a toll collection booth then the owner would be scanned his RFID card on RFID reader then RFID reader will give the logic signal to the microcontroller. Then microcontroller would give the logic signal to WIFI modem which is interfaced with an online internet connection. This system is connected online, this system will check the balance of that specific vehicle owner. If the balance is enough as per the toll booth fee, then the microcontroller will give the logic signal to the motor drive circuit the motor will clear the path to pass the vehicle.

Similarly, if the vehicle owner balance is not enough as per toll both fee then the microcontroller will not give the logic signal to the motor drive circuit will not drive the motor to clear path to pass the vehicle. Continually this condition, the NODEMCU ESP8266 microcontroller will send the logic signal to electronic buzzer then the buzzer will switch on and will give the intimation message to the toll both departments.
